Saying his son "easily could have killed someone", the man said: "I am so angry with him. He took my car while I was asleep. He does not have a licence or insurance. He has not even passed his test.

"He could easily have killed someone. As it is he has taken out a lamppost and destroyed a house porch. I am so grateful that no one was in the way.

"He is injured but we are hoping he is going to be OK."

The house is in fact two flats.

He said: "It's a right mess bit I'm just thankful that no one died. My two kids are often playing out the front just where the car hit.

"The other tenant was in the house when it happened. She had only just walked through that porch with her shopping and had gone upstairs when she said she heard this huge bang.

"There is no back door, she couldn't get through the front so she had to be rescued through a back window."

Landlord of the property, 33-year-old Jonathon Vose, said nobody can now live in the house and that the council has stepped into rehouse his tenants until the damage is repaired.

He said: "The porch will clearly have to be demolished and the building assessed, but I think the main part of the building remains structurally sound. We are insured too."

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the crash, which saw the road blocked off from the roundabout near Moss Lane and at the bottom near McDonald's.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "Two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance attended the RTC involving a car.
