Video captures mass brawl in town centre

The fight happened outside bars on King Street at 11.40pm on Tuesday, bringing traffic to a standstill as it spilled out into the road.

While it broke out after England’s World Cup match against Colombia, police say they do not believe it was football-related.

A video of the incident has been circulated on social media in recent days.

Dean Harrison, who moved to Leigh last year, shared it on a Facebook group after he received it from a colleague.

He said: “I wanted to show people what’s going on on the streets of Leigh. That’s why I put it on Facebook.

“I love it around here. I wouldn’t have moved here if I didn’t think it was a nice place, but after seeing that I’m disgusted.”

It follows two men being attacked as they waited for a taxi in Ashton town centre after watching the England-Tunisia match on June 18.

One had a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called to King Street, Leigh at around 11.40pm on Tuesday, July 3 following reports of fighting.“A group of around 30 males were involved in an altercation.

“One man received an injury to his nose and attended hospital.

“The incident was not reported as being football-related.”
