His interest in the supernatural started after his own experiences as a boy.

He said: “Growing up in the late ’60s and early ’70s, I couldn’t say anything but I was hearing voices as a child and seeing things as a teenager, so the attraction was always there.”

Whilst working as a medium, Howard has had the chance to explore some of the most haunted places in the UK and has written a series of much-loved books about his experiences, such as: A Haunting in Pendle, Whispers in The Dark and The Haunted Bell Tower.

Now, Howard has written A Haunting in Wigan, a book that takes the reader on a journey through all of the spooky and most haunted places in Wigan borough.

Howard said: “It features various places such as Haigh Hall and The Mount in Orrell and stories that I’ve come across in Wigan that people have told me over the years. I thought I could put it all together in a book for people to enjoy.”

The book highlights lots of Wigan’s top haunted places, but there is one in particular that Howard finds the spookiest.

He said: “With Haigh Hall there’s the story of Lady Mabel, but certainly in the hall itself I’ve felt the presence of children and seen them at the windows.

“In my teenage years I walked the grounds and a dog walker said ‘hello’ to me, I turned around and he was gone, I walked down paths to look and there was nobody there.”

There are many more spooky stories like this in the book and importantly, half the royalties received from sales will be donated to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Additionally, you can also find limited signed copies at Bulldog Forge in Ince where full sales of the book will go to the charity.

Howard said: “We’ve previously raised £700 for the hospice and I like doing things for charity, it’s about giving back.”
