Laura said: “My health was bad, really bad. I was getting cellulitis every few months and I could see how it was affecting my son.

“We’d booked a cruise to the Caribbean and we went to Liverpool Docks before the holiday, but I couldn’t even walk the length of the ship along the dock without stopping. I knew then that I needed to do something.”

After losing weight, Laura then to finally passed her driving test.

Laura said: “I’ve never been able to drive because I’ve been so big I’ve not been able to fit behind the wheel and previous to being able to fit behind the wheel, I just didn’t have the confidence to do it.”

Laura passed her test in September, but it was after seeing her son Josh (16) play music at gigs, that life changed again.

She said: “He had an 18th birthday party that he gigged at and it was just him singing, there was no DJ afterwards and when he was finished everyone disappeared and the atmosphere of the party went down a bit.

“It made me think that maybe I could start DJing, I love music anyway and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Now, Laura alongside her son Josh and her husband Jamie, have set up The Entertainment Hub offering affordable packages with Josh as the singer and Laura as the DJ in between songs.

Since then, they’ve performed at Wigan 10K, a variety of parties and will perform at the Happy Smiles CIC event in December.

On what her son thinks of their musical partnership, Laura said: “His music is his life, it’s his let out. He enjoys it and he’s managed to write his own song as well which is unreal. It’s amazing that he can do that because I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
