New policy implemented across Wigan borough to tackle anti-social behaviour
The new policy aims to provide a clear and consistent approach to tackling anti-social behaviour across the borough, while ensuring victims receive the right support, with improved accessibility commitments and stronger partnership working between the council and key agencies.
Residents are set to benefit from a stronger approach to tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) due to a refreshed council policy.

The new ASB policy, approved by Wigan Council last month, introduces a borough-wide framework that will help incidents be identified, investigated and resolved in a fair way.
It covers all communities and housing tenures, aiming to provide safer and more welcoming neighbourhoods for everyone.

Coun Kevin Anderson, cabinet portfolio holder for police, crime and civil contingencies, said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood.
“This refreshed policy provides a clear and consistent approach to tackling ASB across our borough, while ensuring victims receive the right support.
"By working closely with residents and partners, we can intervene early, resolve issues effectively and take robust action.”
A key feature of the policy is the introduction of a new four-step Anti-Social Behaviour Resolution Model, providing clear pathways for reporting concerns, assessing cases, resolving issues early where possible and taking enforcement action when necessary.
It also places a greater emphasis on supporting victims. Measures include a trauma-informed approach, personalised support, safety planning and named contacts, helping residents feel listened to and supported.
Improved accessibility commitments hope to make it easier for residents with additional needs to access information and support, while stronger partnership working between the council and key agencies will aim to deliver faster and more effective responses.
The council hopes that this policy will support their ambition to help all towns and neighbourhoods flourish, ensuring residents can feel safe, supported and proud of where they live.
