Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio reckons his young and hungry side will be looking to prove themselves against Wigan Athletic

That is the view of Magpies boss Jamie Vermiglio who takes his National League North team to the DW Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 12.45pm).
Several of the Chorley squad have had experience of playing in the Football League in the past.

“They will want to prove themselves,” said Vermiglio.
“I think some of them will be more suited to playing against Football League opposition, where the dynamics of the game will be slightly different to what we are used to.
“We have got people like Harry Cardwell, Connor Hall, Lewis Riley – that’s three players in our frontline who have all played League One/Two football.
“Similarly as you move back through the team, we have people like Ollie Shenton, Mike Calverley – there’s a few more – who have had experience of playing in the Football League. That’s really positive thing for them but again it’s a challenge for them.

Looking at Wigan, the Magpies are arguably playing them at the perfect time.
The Latics suffered off-the-pitch troubles at the end of last season which saw them go into administration.
They picked up a 12-point penalty and were subsequently relegated from the Championship. Manager Paul Cook left and there was an exodus of star players such as Kieffer Moore, Jamal Lowe and David Marshall.

They have lost seven of their previous eight games in all competitions.
However, similarly Chorley suffered the dreaded drop from the National League and currently find themselves at the bottom of the NL North after picking up just one point from their first five games.
“If you look at their form, it is the perfect time to play a team which is struggling to pick up wins, but they could say the same about us couldn’t they?” said Vermiglio, who has watched his team pick up their only two wins of the season so far in the FA Cup.

“Similarly, I am sure John Sheridan will have them well prepared and thinking it’s a good distraction for them.”
