We've 'not been good enough', admits Wigan Athletic stalwart

Latics slipped to second bottom in the Championship at the weekend despite securing a very creditable point at high-flying Swansea City.

Despite the side being unable to hold on to a 2-0 lead, it was very much a point gained after a horror run of seven defeats in eight matches.

And Power insists the disappointment felt in the dressing room after the game shows the high standards the players continue to place on themselves.

“There was a lot of disappointment in the dressing room to be two goals up and come away with a draw,” he said.

“We would have liked to have taken the three points. In the first half, our shape as a team was really good and we limited Swansea’s opportunities.

“I thought we dealt with them really well at times, and the goal on the stroke of half-time was disappointing.

"In the second half, we defended well for large periods, and a moment has decided the result.

“At this moment in time with the run we are on, we’ve got to take the positives.

"We know we’ve not been good enough, and we’ve all got to take accountability for that.

“We’re all striving to do better, and we were under no illusions that it was going to be a tough season.

"We’ve put a plug on what was a bad run, and the challenge now for the squad is to go to Coventry in midweek, follow it up and try and get the three points.”
