Wigan Athletic chief posts Kyle Joseph injury update

Wigan Athletic face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the back injury currently keeping star striker Kyle Joseph on the sidelines.

The Scotland Under-19 international was badly missed in the midweek defeat at Swindon, with Latics failing to force a single shot on the home goal.

Joseph, who's netted five times this term, limped off just after the three-quarter mark of last week’s home defeat to Blackpool, after being subjected to the roughest treatment so far during his fledgling career.

He played on after having his ankle trodden on, but it’s understood the club are more concerned with a back injury that’s since become apparent.

“Kyle’s with the medical team at the moment,” revealed acting manager Leam Richardson.

“We’re just waiting on the results of certain scans, and medical reports etc. I think we should have all the results back by next week.”

Latics do at least have attacking reinforcements in the form of deadline-day signings Viv Solomon-Otabor and Jamie Proctor – neither of whom travelled to Swindon.

“Viv has been out for a while, so it’ll take him a bit of time to get up and running, but he’s exciting and raring to go,” added Richardson.

“Jamie’s been around the block, so to speak. He’s a really honest player with qualities we’re missing, so we hope he’s going to get some goals and chip in.”
