Wane: There's plenty more to come

Shaun Wane says he is 'happy' with Wigan's progress over the first-half of the regular season - but is adamant there is 'loads of improvement in us'.

Oliver Gildart scored two of Wigan’s five tries in a 28-12 victory against the Tigers, who beat the Warriors three times last year on their way to League Leaders’ Shield glory.

Wane said: “To keep a class team like Castleford to nil in the second-half is a good effort, we should be proud of it.

“Even when we made errors and gave away some soft penalties, our response to the adversity was superb.

“They’ve won their last four against us, and - no argument - they’ve been by far the better team.

“So it was a big victory against a very good team, so I’m happy.”

Castleford were the last remaining side Wigan hadn’t played this year.

The win - their ninth from 11 matches - kept them second in the ladder, two points behind leaders St Helens who hammered Huddersfield 66-4.

“I’m happy with where we’re at,” said Wane. “But we can get miles better. I can see a lot of ways we can improve.

“If we’d have got 11 of 11 still say improvement, always look to get better, we’re doing things well in patches which is getting us wins.

“Daryl (Powell) will say the same, there’s loads of improvement in them and loads of improvement in us.”

Centre Dan Sarginson withdrew with a ‘tight back’ in warm-up. Wigan are in next action at Widnes next Friday.

Castleford coach Powell said his side “panicked” and admitted the hosts were the better side.
