Wigan's Joe ‘The Real Deal’ Peel has been crowned England Boxing North West Senior Champion at 62.5kg after a dominant unanimous points decision victory over David Quinn of Carlisle at Stalybridge Masonic Hall.

Quinn came into the contest as an aggressive, all-action opponent who pressed forward relentlessly for all three rounds, but found himself coming out of the exchanges second best each time. Peel’s class told throughout, and all three judges had no hesitation in awarding the victory.

The win adds the North West Senior title to an already remarkable collection for Peel, 19, a three-time North West champion, national youth champion and England representative who claimed silver in the four nations tournament.

Now firmly in the senior ranks, he continues to prove himself as one of the most exciting prospects in British amateur boxing.

Alex Matvienko, head coach and founder of Elite Boxing Gym, said: “Joe is a rising star, not only a great boxer but someone who does so much in the community, inspiring so many kids and becoming a great role model.”

Peel’s focus now turns to the national pre-quarters in Banbury, where he will be targeting the number one ranking in the country.

Team-mate Jamie Kes also heads to Banbury, following Joe into the pre-quarters at 80kg. A former national development champion, Kes has started to earn recognition as one of the hottest prospects in amateur boxing, also for Halliwell ABC, and will be another name to watch at the national stage.
