Atherton dentist filling growing demand for local services
A long-running Atherton dentist is relocating to a larger practice to help address the growing demand for local dental care services.
For more than 40 years, Mayfield Dental Care has been supporting residents in the town with their oral health from its practice on Mayfield Street. Today, it serves 8,500 patients within the local community, with its 14-strong team offering both routine NHS treatments as well as private cosmetic dental services.

A growing demand for dental care in the area has led to the business relocating to a larger premises, which it’s now acquired following the support of a £1.1m funding package from Lloyds.
The new site is located within a historic building dating back to 1902 and has been carefully repurposed to create a new clinical practice with six surgeries, two more than Mayfield Dental Care had at its previous site. This additional capacity will allow the dental practice to take on more patients as well as offer more private cosmetic services including implants, composite bonding and Invisalign.

The practice has also invested in new cutting-edge intra oral scanners to be used at the new site. These scanners will create 3D models of a patient’s mouth and can often be used in place of impressions – improving the quality of patient care for treatments for crowns, dentures and veneers.
Mayfield Dental Care is expecting to complete the move to its new practice early in the new year and is also looking to create up to four additional full-time roles at the new site to manage its additional capacity.
Dr Chris Ainsworth at Mayfield Dental Care said: “In recent years we’ve been seeing a growing demand for dental care services in the local area, and we’ve been keen to play our part in helping to address this. So, when we spotted a chance to create a larger practice nearby, we knew it was one we couldn’t afford to miss.
“I’m grateful for the support from Lloyds in allowing us to make the most of this opportunity. The move will allow us to improve our care for existing patients while giving us the ability to bring our services to more people across Atherton, and I’m looking forward to opening our new home early in the new year.”

Stephen Morris, relationship manager at Lloyds, said: “Mayfield Dental Care is a terrific example of a business serving the community and its continued growth over more than four decades is testament to how well it’s doing that.
“The new practice not only marks an exciting time for Chris and his team, but the wider area which relies on the important health services they provide. It was great to have been able to help them make this move and I look forward to seeing their new practice once it’s open.”
Stephen Morris and David Eaves from Lloyds supported Mayfield Dental Care with this transaction.
Mayfield Dental Care is owned by Freedom Smiles Holdings Ltd, who also operate two other dental practices in the region – Freedom Dental in Cheadle Hulme and Heaton Mersey Dental in Heaton Mersey.
