Matthew Carr, Juniors Chairman at Wigan RUFC, said: “Wigan RUFC Juniors are delighted to receive this grant from Persimmon, which will play a vital role in providing new equipment for our players.

“It will also help us continue to offer an inclusive environment where children can step away from screens, build confidence, improve fitness, and enjoy playing our great game.

“We welcome children of all abilities, from school Year 2 (U7s) through to college-age U18s (Senior Colts), providing a clear pathway into our open-age teams.

“We are also proud to have developed players who have gone on to switch codes and sign for Wigan Warriors academy and first team.

“In addition, we have established links with Sale Sharks’ Player Development Pathway (PDP), offering our players the opportunity to progress and play rugby union at a senior level.”

Coun Chris Ready said: “A big thank you to Persimmon for supporting our grassroots sports clubs. It means so much to our community.”

Keiron Morley, technical director at Persimmon North West, added: “Being from Wigan myself, I’m incredibly proud to be supporting Wigan RUFC through our Community Champions initiative, they are a pillar of our local community.

“As a business operating locally, we’re committed to having a positive impact on local people and want to leave a lasting positive legacy across Wigan.

“I hope this donation helps us to achieve just that.”
