Tony Porter Ponders: a great weekend in Wigan and do we have a weak PM?

Tony Porter ponders on a great weekend in weekend and prime minister Andy Burnham.

What a month August was - record one for my shop, the awful fire at John Bull Chophouse but the great response that you, true Wiganers, gave at the start of September holding the first, and hopefully not the last, BullStock 2026.

I am happy that this event on Sunday seemed to be a success.

It was a busy weekend in Wigan town centre with Prom in the Park on Saturday night and the 10K run on Sunday morning.

There was a great buzz going around and that was refreshing.

All that said, I have huge issues with the way we are being governed, from an “unelected” PM downwards.

I know the lefty councillors, at least for now, will write a letter between them, it takes more than one to do so, saying he was elected.

In a general election you vote for the leader of the party you think can least mess things up.

It used to be who can make things better, but that was a long time ago.

This time we have a PM who was not even a possibility of being in that job, the mayor of Manchester, but after less than 26,000 votes he is in Number 10, erm, both of them.

His “maiden” speech as PM proved how out of his depth he is, rambling, trying to be funny, his Tik Tok videos are straight from the Ed Miliband camp, utter tripe and irrelevant.

His first PMQs was interesting, though no solid answers given.

I admit he has more personality than his predecessor, mind you I have seen corpses with more about them than him.

But he is still focusing on stuff that is not at the top of the people’s wishes.

I fear that he and his cronies, mostly from Starmer’s Cabinet, will force us far right.

The far right in Europe are gathering momentum, France where they won the first of a two-part election, and Germany where in a “local” election the far right AfD look like they may have a huge majority.

In the UK, neigh, even in Wigan at the last local elections the right won massively.

If I was a Labour member I would smash my keyboard up to save myself from future humiliation, your day is up, you are done, but that does not mean I embrace the right.

Farage showed his true colours after the sting operation and his Farage Fest event, the protesters in Dover and Portsmouth all masked up showed where we could be heading.

Is Andy the right guy to stop this decay in society? No, not unless he embraces the issues the public want sorting, no more dilly or dallying Andy.

Stop the boats, deport those with no right to be here, sort out the country’s High Streets, get us Armed Forces to be proud of, stop taxing success, punish those milking the DWP and pay those in need the amount they deserve.

Stop attacking the pensioners, who paid in all their working lives. Get coppers back on the streets not in offices looking for folks who say “hurty words”.

Basically, get a grip and grow a pair!
