Montrose Hall at Worsley Hall is now officially accredited to the Veterans-Friendly Framework and those behind the scheme say they would love to see all other residential care and nursing homes in the borough follow its shining example.

The centre holds a veterans’ coffee and a cake afternoon on the first Tuesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm which is open to the wider community too.

Jennie Cass, who is a healthcare assistant and the veteran lead at Montrose Hall, said: “I'm really please to see that we are now a veteran accredited home.

“We are proud to honour the service of our veterans while supporting their families throughout their journey with us.

“We recognise their military service and personal experiences and we work closely together with The Armed Forces Headquarters at Molyneux House in Wigan which enriches our residents and their families in meaningful ways.

“It also strengthens our links with the wider veternan community.

Wigan has a proud history of supporting the armed forces community and we want to encourage every care home in the borough to become veternan accredited.

“We can ensure that those who have served our country receive the recognition, understanding and person-centred care they deserve.”

The home now sports a new plaque proudly announcing “we are a veteran-friendly care home” on display.

The accreditation is in recognition of its “work to support the wellbeing needs of veterans by ensuring that armed forces status is included in care planning. “
