Wigan 10k organisers receive the lead car ahead of the 14th annual event this weekend
The lead car has now been handed to organisers of the Wigan 10k ahead of Sunday’s race.
Final preparations are now being made for Sunday’s Wigan 10k and family mile.
The keys to the lead car have been presented to Jack Johnson - the inspiration for organising charity Joining Jack - by principal sponsor HW Moon Toyota.
It will be used to lead the runners at the front of the race and ensure the road is clear as they tackle the 6.2-mile course.
Registration for the 14th annual 10k event closed at midnight on Wednesday, September 2, with more than 2,600 people signing up, though entries for the family mile will be available on the day.
Goodie bags, which include medals, are being packed by an army of volunteers, ready to present to 10k runners and walkers as they cross the finish line.
The 10k race starts at Mesnes Park at 10am and will see participants go along Park Road and Woodhouse Lane to The Brick Community Stadium and Martland Park, before returning to the park.
Drivers are advised to choose alternative routes as roads will be closed for the race.
It will be followed at 12.30pm by the family mile, which takes place in the park and on surrounding roads.
The annual event is organised by Joining Jack, a Wigan-based charity raising funds for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, while many participants will also raise money for other good causes close to their hearts.
